Environmental Policy
This policy is provided for general information. HAAUS recommends independent legal review.
HAAUS. Pty Ltd is committed to providing a quality service in a manner that ensures a safe and healthy workplace for our team and minimises our potential impact on the environment. We recognise that we have social responsibilities that go beyond the provisions of the relevant Acts and Regulations and that we should support and contribute to protecting the environment through all aspects of our work and practices. We operate in compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and strive to use pollution prevention and environmental best practices in everything we do.
We aim to minimise the effects our activities have on the environment by giving thought to the selection, procurement and disposal of the products we use and the way in which we run our business. We develop a culture of environmental awareness, investigate relevant government initiatives, train our team and follow the hierarchy of reduce, reuse and recycle. We employ a cradle-to-grave approach and commit to the guidelines established in ISO 14000.
We promote environmental awareness among our team and encourage them to work in an environmentally responsible manner. We train, educate and inform them about environmental issues that may affect their work.
We review and monitor our environmental progress on a yearly basis to ensure that we continue to make a positive impact on the environment.
Our focus areas
Waste
- Where possible we reduce, reuse and recycle. For example recycling leftover paint into community repaint programs and upcycling existing furniture by reupholstering rather than always buying new.
- We install the most environmentally friendly lighting where possible.
- We endeavour to reduce water consumption and waste in our kitchen and bathroom designs.
- All waste is separated where possible and disposed of in a timely fashion.
- Any building waste is removed by skip companies who provide waste transfer notices.
- Skips are packed as fully and carefully as possible to maximise space.
Procurement
- Where possible we source our products locally.
- We use materials from the local area or region where practical.
- We choose paint with the lowest VOC content possible.
- We choose water-based paints where possible.
- We endeavour to make sensible product purchases such as larger containers and bulk buys.
General operations
- Recycling of packaging materials and minimising waste.
- Efficient use of water and energy.
- Use of biodegradable chemicals.
- Minimising use of solvents and lead-based paints.
- Use of timber from sustainable managed forests.
- Minimising noise disturbance to neighbours.
- Phasing out of CFCs and ozone-depleting substances.
Digital operations
Because a large part of our business is delivered digitally, we further reduce environmental impact by avoiding printed materials where possible and delivering guides, planners and templates as instant downloads rather than shipped goods.
Our commitment to best practice environmental policies continues through the ongoing review of our policies.
