No previous CapCut or editing experience is required. CapCut is taught from the first tap, and if you already use Instagram Edits, the guide shows you how the core editing controls transfer across.

What you will learn

Exercise 01 · Edit your first complete reel in CapCut
Take five to eight clips and turn them into one finished reel. Learn how to trim, arrange, remove dead air, add your opening text and export your edit.

Exercise 02 · Create rhythm with footage and music
Choose a track, find the beat and learn how to intentionally time selected cuts so your footage works with the rhythm of the music.

Exercise 03 · Build stronger hooks
Learn the three layers of a reel hook (visual, text and spoken) and how to use them together without simply repeating the same thing.

Exercise 04 · Add your first voiceover
Write and record a simple three line voiceover over your b-roll, then generate and correct captions. No talking to camera required.

Exercise 05 · Repurpose one idea
Take footage you have already used and turn it into a second reel with a different hook, opening, order, pace and story.

Already use Instagram Edits?

That is completely fine.

Many core editing skills transfer between timeline based editing apps, including trimming, splitting, arranging clips, adding text and exporting.

This module includes a quick comparison showing where those familiar controls sit in CapCut.

The detailed demonstrations throughout the guide are shown in CapCut, including the rhythm, voiceover and caption workflows.

Is CapCut free?

When this guide was verified, everything required to complete the workflow shown could be done using CapCut's free features.

CapCut can change feature availability, labels and pricing over time, so the guide teaches you to follow the function rather than relying on a button always staying in the same place.

I do not want to speak on camera

You do not have to.

Exercise 04 teaches voiceover over b-roll, so you stay behind the camera.

And if you are not ready to use your voice yet, the guide also shows you how to continue using text based reels instead.

Five exercises sounds like a lot

Each exercise takes around 30 to 45 minutes and gives you one clear task to complete.

You are not sitting through hours of theory.
